Safety and replacement of the floating stock at the Port of Gdansk with the use of OPI Funds
In December 2015, the Centre for EU Transport Projects concluded two funding contracts with the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. The contracts for the projects ‘Investment to improve safety at the Port of Gdansk’ and ‘Replacement of the floating stock of the Port of Gdansk Authority’ were signed by Dorota Raben and Jerzy Melaniuk on the side of the beneficiary, and by Pawel Szacillo on the side of the CEUTP.

  1. Investment to improve safety at the Port of Gdansk

Total value: over 4.9 million PLN
EU funding: over 4 million PLNThe project completed in 2015 was aimed at improving port safety by modernising the fire fighting vessel Strazak 6 and equipping the newly created Emergency Centre of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA with communications and computer equipment.

As a direct result of the project there will be a reduction in the amount of time required to reach a unit in need of assistance at the outer limits of the area under the responsibility of the administrative boundaries of the Gdansk port.

  2. Replacement of the floating stock of the Port of Gdansk Authority

Total value: over 9.85 million PLN
EU funding: 3.2 million PLNThe investment allowed the purchased of a hydrographic-inspection floating unit and an ecological-rescue rapid response boat.

The new equipment will expand the area at the bottom of the basin that can be examined while enhancing the quality of examinations carried out within the administrative boundaries of the Gdansk port.

Both projects received funds from 7.2. The development of maritime transport of the Infrastructure and Environment Programme 2007-2013.

Poland Prize

In the autumn of 2018, the 1st stage of another edition of the Poland Prize acceleration programme began, with over 100 start-up submissions from all over the world. By way of selection, the Port of Gdansk Authority distinguished two start-ups (Geckomatics and LESS Industries), with which it established cooperation. They proposed solutions responding to the following challenges faced by the PGA:

  1. Creating an automatic system for the measurement, monitoring, and presentation of data on the level of sea water at the Port of Gdansk – with the aim of obtaining information on water levels at the Port based on wireless sensors (solution prepared by LESS Industries);

  2. Creating a complex system with the topography of the area within the premises of the Port of Gdansk – with the aim of streamlining control of the condition of the quays by mapping the area with smart cameras (solution prepared by Geckomatics).

Talks are currently ongoing, aimed at specifying the manner of executing the tasks in more detail. In March 2019, the start-ups will begin to physically implement their solutions. The 1st stage of the acceleration will be concluded on 31 May 2019.
The 2nd stage of the current edition of Poland Prize will start on 1 February 2019 and last until 31 December 2019.

ScaleUp II

In February 2019, the Port of Gdansk Authority and the BlueDot Solutions company signed a partnership and cooperation agreement concerning the “Space3ac Scale Up II” project within the framework of the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020 Priority Axis II: Support for the environment and capacity of enterprise for R&D&I activity Measure 2.5 Acceleration programmes.

It will support innovative projects from the area of space technologies, bioeconomy, and smart cities. The accelerator will allot up to PLN 1,500,000 to help implement the objective.
Currently, start-ups are sending in their submissions. The Port of Gdansk Authority has prepared 4 challenges for the aspiring start-ups. The programme will be concluded on 31 January 2021.
