Dorota Pyć among the winners of the 20th edition of the Pomorskie Eagle

Dorota Pyć, President of the Port of Gdańsk, was named a winner of the Pomorskie Eagle Award, which has been presented for the past twenty years by the editorial staff of Magazyn Pomorski. The event is held under the patronage of the Governor of Pomorskie and the Marshal of the Pomorskie Province.

During a gala ceremony at the historic Artus Court in Gdańsk, statuettes were awarded to thirteen winners, with one special jubilee award being presented. Among the winners were entrepreneurs, institutions and prominent figures from the Pomorskie world of business, science, culture and sport.

This year’s gala was a double anniversary – it was the 20th edition of the event and at the same time the 30th anniversary of Magazyn Pomorski.

‘We recognise active, creative, resourceful and go-getting people who bring about positive change and whose energy and dynamic actions serve our region. They are the ones who create an attractive and friendly living environment’, said Grażyna Wiatr, editor-in-chief of Magazyn Pomorski, during the gala.

The gala brought together a distinguished group of guests – representatives of self-government, business and social circles. The ceremony was highlighted by a performance by Wiesław Prządka, one of the most outstanding Polish accordionists and the only Pole playing the diatonic bandoneon.

A special anniversary award was presented to Ireneusz Ćwirko, president of the CRIST shipyard. Another special award – a statuette and the title of Laureate of the Pomorskie Eagle – went to the company Iglotex from Skórcz, and was received by its president, Maciej Włodarczyk.

Other statuettes were awarded to: BanGlob (president Brygida Hirszler), BIOXON Botanic Help (president Grzegorz Kuźniar), My Story Hotel Gdynia (owner Adam Rymarski and director Jolanta Darżnik), the Polski Ziemniak (president Piotr Górski), Rafineria Gdańska (president Adrian Szkudlarski) and Stena Line Polska (president Marek Kiersnowski).

Two outstanding women were also honoured: Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, Minister of Health, and Dorota Pyć, President of the Port of Gdańsk.

A speech of appreciation to the President of the Port of Gdańsk was delivered by Anna Stelmaszyk-Świerczyńska, Director of the Maritime Office in Gdynia: ‘Professor Pyć has been shaping maritime law for years, but she also passionately combines science with practice. She is the head of the Department of Maritime Law at the University of Gdańsk, the author of over 150 scientific publications, and someone who has turned her love for the sea into her professional and life mission’, she said.

President Dorota Pyć was very moved. ‘I did not expect such an honour, I never even dreamed of it. I love the sea, I have been connected to it since childhood. My father was a sailor, I always loved the port – initially it was the port in Gdynia. Fate brought me to the Port of Gdańsk, which I now manage and which is very close to my heart. The sea and the port give me energy. When you get up before sunrise and go to the sea, it is different every time. I hope you feel this energy in your everyday life and on special occasions’, said Dorota Pyć during the award ceremony.

Among the award-winning institutions were also: the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, represented by its rector, Prof. Ryszard Minkiewicz, the Pomorskie Chamber of Crafts for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (the statuette was received by director Małgorzata Wokacz-Zaborowska) and the Association of Honorary Consuls, represented by the Association’s Management Board, including president Jan Strawiński, Honorary Consul of Bulgaria.

We sincerely congratulate the winners!
