Dock2Gdańsk – a new platform for business partners

Dock2Gdańsk – a new platform for business partners

The Port of Gdańsk Authority (PGA) is introducing the Dock2Gdańsk online platform, intended to streamline partnerships between international business partners – primarily from China – and operators working at the Port of Gdańsk.

The platform addresses the needs of the business partners interested in transporting goods through the Port of Gdańsk. Its purpose is to streamline and accelerate the process of submitting requests for quotations to the relevant port operators through the use of a database and automation.

“Thanks to the work of our office in China, we regularly receive numerous commercial enquiries. We want to pass them on to our partners in an efficient, transparent and fair manner. The new platform is going to help us automate this process by shortening the response times and increasing the competitiveness of our operators”, said Dominik Landa, Director of the Strategy and Development Department at PGA.

How does the platform work? For example, company XYZ requests assistance in organising the transport of 1,000 batteries to Poland and expects the enquiry to be forwarded to the appropriate operator or forwarding agent. The operators (business partners) handle the enquiries and provide the responses directly. PGA’s role is limited to matching the appropriate parties (matchmaking). The administrator confirms the receipt of the message concerning the goods and informs the sender to what companies the enquiry has been forwarded. The business partners then take over the correspondence and contact the sender as soon as possible.

“We are starting with business partners from China. There are essentially several reasons for this. The share of imports and exports to China is the largest, we have been working with this market the longest and we have the most sea connections. At the end of September, China hosted the largest logistics fair – China International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair in Shenzhen, where we began to actively promote our platform”, said Oliwia Walter from the Strategy and Development Department of the Port of Gdańsk. “But we are not stopping with the Middle Kingdom. For three years now, we have been actively operating in other Far Eastern markets (Korea, Vietnam and now Japan). They too will be added to the platform. The more maritime connections we have, and we are constantly working on this, the better dock2gdansk will be. Soon, we should have the ability to offer services to exporters from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine”.

The platform is available at: https://www.dock2gdansk.com/. The online form requires some essential information: the name of the company, their address, country code and type of cargo (like refrigerated containers, ro-ro cargo, and project cargo). In the case of dangerous goods (in accordance with IMO regulations), a detailed description is required.

Thanks to dock2gdansk, port operators gain the ability to efficiently handle orders and access a new customer base, while customers are assured of a professional and competitive offer.
