Noise measurement

Noise measurement

In compliance with statutory obligations (Environmental law, art. 175, item 1), the Port of Gdansk Authority SA performs periodic measurements of the level of noise from installations and equipment within the premises of the PGA SA, including vessel traffic.

To date, noise level measurements at the Port of Gdansk have been performed twice, in 2008 and 2012. The tests covered all forms of activity located within the area under the administration of the PGA SA and generating noise emissions to the environment. The measurements included the level of noise generated by vessels, motor vehicles and rolling stock, as well as noise emitted as a result of the broadly-defined activities conducted by the port operating companies, including industrial activity and handling and storage operations, along with all the accompanying processes.

The aim of the measurements was to assess the acoustic impact of the port's activities on neighboring areas, and to check whether PGA SA's operations do not exceed permissible noise levels in places protected against noise pollution by the relevant regulations.

The measurements taken show that both in 2008 and 2012, permissible levels of noise from installations and equipment, including vessel traffic, were not exceeded within the premises of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA in places protected against noise pollution.

It was also found that in the remaining areas, not protected against noise pollution, with port, manufacturing, production and services, and transport functions, the nuisance connected with the emission of noise due to the activities of the Port of Gdansk does not extend beyond the boundaries of those areas to which PGA SA has legal title.
