The opening of a suspension bridge over the Martwa Wisla13.11.2001 On November 13, 2001 the opening celebrations launched the operation of a suspension bridge over the Martwa Wisla complete with a system of access roads. Among the numerous guests attending the event there was the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister Infrastructure Development - Mr. Marek Pol, the Pomeranian Governor - Mr. Jan Ryszard Kurylczyk, the Marshal of the Province - Mr. Jan Zarebski, the Gdansk Mayor - Mr. Pawel Adamowicz and the Head of the Gdansk Diocese - archbishop Tadeusz Goclowski. The celebration was also attended by a large representation of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA headed by the President of the Board - Mr. Marian Switek. Successful completion of the bridge is a crowning achievement of many years' efforts made by the stevedores in order to improve the access to the port and industrial grounds situated on the east side of the Martwa Wisla for the land transportation of large volumes of cargo in the range of the Northern Port, Gorniczy Basin, Westerplatte Peninsula and the Przerobka district. Additionally, it provides excellent opportunities to increase the rate of growth and expansion of the so far undeveloped grounds. The Port of Gdansk Authority SA has made a significant contribution to successful accomplishment the task and, most importantly, assured the overall support and approval of the project, as well as the sufficient financial resources for its development. Moreover, our intension for the future is to continue the strive for better accessibility of the Port of Gdansk.
