Cargo Handling in February - According to the Plan

01.03.2002

February has turned out to be another good month in the Port of Gdansk. Although the difference as compared to the analogous period of the last year is not so significant as the one reported in January, still there has been an increase in the turnover of the handled cargo - by 4.6% (121 584 tonnes).

Stagnation is bound to occur in one of the months at the beginning of the year - says Marek Czernowski, the Chief Dispatcher of the Port of Gdansk. This is due to the policy of our contracting parties at the turn of the year.

Except for the cargo group "other bulk cargo", where in comparison to 2001 there has been a decrease in cargo handling by 149 689 tonnes (292 636 tonnes have been handled) - in all other cargo groups there has been an increase. The volume of coal handled was 965 499 tonnes (862 222 tonnes in February 2001), fuel - 1 200 534 tonnes (1 105 336 tonnes in February 2001), general cargo 236 130 tonnes (172 438 tonnes in February 2001) and grain - 36 255 tonnes (35 539 tonnes in February 2001).

The rate of cargo handling in February 2002 was slightly higher (by 0.1%) than the planned one, however as soon as in March we expect a much more substantial growth. According to our estimates the supply of fuel and general cargo looks very promising - says Marek Czernowski.
