The first ever passage across the suspension bridge over the Martwa Wisla10.08.2001 On August 5th 2001, at the construction site of the suspension bridge over the Martwa Wisla in Gdansk in the course of the Sucharski Route, upon completion of the assembly works to the final section of the principle span, a continuous transportation link was provided between the two banks of the Martwa Wisla. The first ever to walk along the bridge were Pawel Adamowicz - President of the City of Gdansk, Ryszard Gruda - Vice-president of the City of Gdansk and Jan Halas - Member of the Board of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. They were accompanied, on behalf of the contractor - the companies of Demathieu and Bard and the Lodz Bridges, by Stanislaw Pawelski - President, Maciej Targowski - Director and Lucjan Malinowski - Chief Engineer of the Site. The event attracted also numerous attendance of the press.
The bridge symbolizes the progress to a new phase in terms of the development of the Port of Gdansk, which has been eagerly looked forward to. The construction of the bridge will always remain in close relation to the ambitious expectations of the port workers, who, by means of their persistence and joint efforts contributed to the successful completion of works. There's 2.5 months left to the overall completion of the entire investment. Over 90% of the indicative scope of tasks in terms of finance and assets have been successfully performed. The aggregate of technological problems have been resolved, especially as regards the issues concerning the first ever bracket assembly process of the principle span of the bridge conducted in Poland, which makes the investment of particular interest to the Polish engineering specialists.
