Another record-breaking shipment of vehicles

25.03.2007

On 20 March this year, car carrier "Höegh Trident" with a load of 4,290 vehicles called at the Port of Gdansk. It has been so far the largest one-off shipment of cars brought to the Port of Gdansk. The vessel moored at the Oliwskie Quay. The unloading began at 7:12 and finished at 18:20 the following day. The vessel delivered 3,121 Nissan cars and 1,169 Chevrolet cars. Operation of unloading was carried out by the Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics company.

"Höegh Trident" vessel can take on board as much as 6,100 vehicles on a one-off basis. The vessel is 200 m long and 32.2 m wide. The draught totals up to 10 m and gross tonnage (GT) 56,164.

The rate of growth in the number of new cars handled using the Ro-Ro system is impressive. In 2006, 78,874 vehicles were handled at the Port of Gdansk. It is more than a sevenfold increase compared to 2005, when 10,716 cars were handled. The current investments being made at the Port of Gdansk will increase the potential of Ro-Ro handling services even further. They include both private investments (Ro-Ro berth in the new container terminal) and the investments financed with the resources of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and the EU resources under the Sectoral Operational Programme - Transport.
