The Cargo Handling and Storage Enterprise PORT POLNOCNY Co. Ltd [PPS "Port Polnocny"] was established on 7th July 1991, during the restructuring of the Port of Gdansk. The basis for the development of our enterprise was the premises, equipment and staff who, according to the plans created as early as the beginning of 1970s, were the initial point for the launching of a modern (for that time) and autonomous bulk cargo port. Consequently, PPS "Port Polnocny" is the enterprise specialising solely in the handling of bulk cargo, with the help of its own two bases: for liquid fuels and for coal.
In its liquid fuel base PPS "Port Polnocny" has two operation units "P" and "O", additionally, the enterprise handles two units belonging to "Naftoport", namely "R" and "T". This base facilitates the handling of ships up to 300,000 DWT, length up to 300 m and draught of 15 m. At the beginning of 2002, both PPS "Port Polnocny" Sp. z o.o. and PPPP "Naftoport" Sp. z o.o. received the Certificates of Integrated Management System (PN-ISO 9002, PN-N 18001, PE-EN ISO 14001) in the capacity of crude oil and derived products handling. The coal base is composed of a well developed railway siding, two wagon tipplers and a wagon defrosting room, which permits the continual operation of the base throughout the whole year. There are also five store yards of the capacity of ca. 600,000 tons of coal, a system of carriers, an automatic sampling unit, and a pier with cargo handling facilities for the ships up to 280 m of length and a 15-metre draught. PPS "Port Polnocny" has its own railway engines in stock and a trained staff, thanks to this it can render its services to other terminals operating on the Port Polnocny premise, as well as have extra capacity for prospective terminals in the future. |
