The Port Free Zone (PFZ) was opened in Gdansk in 1996.
Since it became operational the volume of cargo handled in the Port Free
Zone has been rapidly growing.
The management of the Port Free Zone lies with the Port
of Gdansk Authority SA. Major benefits to the business partners co-operating
with the Port Free Zone include storage of imported goods without customs
guarantees, levy, duty and tax for an unlimited period of time, the removing
and customs clearance of goods in batches, and also, providing advantages
to embark on value-added manufacturing and assembly activities.
Situated at the entrance to the port at quays WOC I and
WOC II in the Wladyslaw IV Basin, the Port Free Zone operates 24 hours
a day and its area totals 33.5 ha.
Registration of goods that are supplied to and removed
from the Port Free Zone is implemented by means of the IT system. The
main operator is Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics Ltd. Major forwarding
agents, numerous customs agencies and inspection offices as well as many
importers are all present at the PFZ. The convenient transport junction
provides good conditions for developing trade.
